As medical students, Dr. Alissa Willis and Dr. Chad Washington shared many classrooms and courses. A dozen years later, they’re back at the Medical Center, leading departments that share many of the same patients. Willis, in neurology, and Washington, in neurosurgery, are working together to treat patients described as being among the sickest in the state.

UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute experts say detecting breast cancer early is key to surviving the disease, but a lack of insurance coverage can be a barrier to care. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, mammograms are helping women get the screenings they need.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
