A personal experience helped Edgar Meyer, then-Associated Student Body president, develop a unique idea: to create a student chaplain position so future health care providers could learn how to become more holistic providers. With assistance from pastoral services staff, Meyer's idea has taken root at UMMC.
After a 45-year career in nursing - nearly 25 of them at UMMC - Dr. Janet Harris is retiring. A 1974 graduate of the School of Nursing, Harris rose through the ranks of hospital administration, ultimately becoming the first female and first nurse to serve as interim chief executive officer at the Medical Center.
UMMC Awards Team recognition is not just for clinical employees. A new honor – the True Blue Award – will be given to employees in any of the Medical Center’s mission areas for “exceeding what is expected and creating a positive difference in the lives of coworkers, customers, patients and visitors.”
A regional clinical investigation society taps UMMC's R. Faser Triplett Sr. M.D. Chair of Allergy and Immunology for its presidency; the Medical Library Association hands a presidential award to a UMMC assistant professor of academic information services; and a dermatology resident captures a Medical Assurance Caldwell Award.
Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Medical Center leadership is proud to acknowledge those employees who will celebrate service anniversaries during the week of June 3-9.
