If a first responder at the scene of an emergency in rural Mississippi can’t get signal to make a call or use WiFi, the life of an injured person could be in peril. A new collaboration between UMMC and the federal First Responder Network Authority aims to address that communication challenge through innovation and the statewide buildup of mobile broadband.

In an area with no pediatrician and few health professionals, the care from SON nurse practitioners and nurses may be the only quality medical care some children receive.

Thirty years ago, Dr. Ian Paul and a group of fellow young researchers had a hypothesis: that major depression has a connection with the brain neurotransmitter glutamate, and that drugs that block glutamate receptors would have an anti-depressive effect. It proved true, making possible the highly acclaimed drug esketamine, the first truly new depression treatment in three decades.
