But his infection worsened, so he was treated at Batson Children's Hospital and began a months-long recovery that included three surgeries and weeks of physical therapy. Now, he’s back to being an active 10-year-old.

Dr. Robert Brodell is known for his studiousness with patients and his patience with students, belying a title he gave himself: the “accidental dermatologist.”

Karen Bascom recently achieved a lifetime goal: In January, the Public Affairs editor-writer was a contestant on “Jeopardy!” Then came the devastating news that the quiz show's host, Alex Trebek, had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Bascom and the Jeopardy! community are rooting for Trebek, who vows to fight his disease.
