School of Nursing faculty members recently participated in a "train the trainer" program with the Joanna Briggs Institute that brings the latest research and best evidence-based practices to the bedside to improve patient outcomes. The SON is now a JBI Centre of Excellence.

Various interactive activities designed by occupational therapy students at UMMC are helping patients develop their fine motor and speech and language skills - while on horseback. The OT Class of 2020 in SHRP developed the creative activities as part of a class project. With gentle guidance from staff members, OT and physical therapy students and two horse "therapists" - Valdez and Jose - patients had the opportunity to exercise their skills on the trail July 20.

Mississippians addicted to drugs or alcohol may find themselves motivated to kick their habits, but in need of help taking their first steps. A new program at UMMC Grenada is offering inpatient detox services to those approved for participation in One-Eighty, a national addiction program that seeks relationships with hospitals to offer administrative and staffing services and to make referrals for after-care support.
