The hours are long, the work requires much focus, and the patients don’t always appreciate you. But UMMC’s nurses are a force to be reckoned with, passionately caring for patients with both hands and heart. On Thursday, 10 were recognized with one of the Medical Center’s annual Excellence in Nursing Awards.
Dr. Ignacio Velasco introduced the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology at the School of Dentistry to 3D printed surgery models when he joined the faculty last year. The technology is not only saving time and money but also improving patient care.
Dr. Edwin Harmon’s career was shaped by his residency at UMMC, where he holds the chair of pediatric urology named for his friend and colleague, Dr. James Keeton. Having first met Harmon in the military, Keeton was instrumental in Harmon returning to the Medical Center later in his career.
The Health Innovation and Transformation Center will host the inaugural HIT Forum from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the Norman C. Nelson Student Union.
