Last week, close to 2,000 patients received free dental care at the School of Dentistry during Dental Mission Week. Volunteers from the Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy and Medicine lent a hand, helping dental school faculty and students perform more than 4,000 dental procedures. The event featured Give Kids A Smile Day Feb. 5 and veterans received care Feb. 8.
A record number of patients were seen during Dental Mission Week Feb. 5-9. More than 500 Jackson children received free care valued at $117,465 during Give Kids A Smile Day, while more than 1,200 uninsured Mississippians received free dental care. Almost 4,000 dental procedures were performed during the event.
The School of Dentistry Alumni Board named Dr. Jimmy Hollingsworth Alumnus of the Year at the 36th annual Dental Alumni and Friends event Feb. 9. Colleagues and friends spoke of Hollingsworth's dedication to patients and the profession and his efforts in preserving dentistry as an American Dental Association Delegate.
