Twelve-year-old Carmen Smith of Louisville loved softball, cheerleading and saddling up for competitive barrel racing. A traumatic head injury suffered in 2015 following a competition ended Carmen's short life, but her parents’ selfless act to donate her organs allowed others to live. Carmen and other Mississippians who are organ donors were honored this month during the annual Wall of Heroes ceremony at UMMC.

‘Tis the season for plenty of tinsel, ribbons and boughs of holly at Batson Children’s Hospital and the Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants. Friends of Children’s Hospital volunteers have been hanging wreaths and decorating trees, brightening the holiday season for patients, family and staff members.

Medical Center leadership is proud to acknowledge those employees who will celebrate service anniversaries during the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
