  • Mail Service / Post Office

The UMMC Mail Service is responsible for the collection and delivery of campus mail, receipt and delivery of parcel post, and the processing of stamped and metered mail.  The service acts as a liaison between the U.S. Postal Service and UMMC.

Through the post office located in the basement of the main hospital, room N-019, UMMC is able to offer most of the same services as the US Postal Service with regard to mailing packages and letters. We have the authority to sell postage stamps by books of 20 and by rolls of 100. We do not offer single stamp sales or money orders nor do we accept credit cards as a form of payment. Checks or cash only is accepted for individual purchases.

Interdepartmental mail or campus mail is distributed to departmental mailboxes throughout the day. These mailboxes are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the appropriate code or key assigned to the mailbox.  The main mail service window is open for service Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Mail service is also provided to off-site facilities, including University Hospitals and Clinics - Holmes County, Lexington Campus, and the Jackson Medical Mall.  Patient Financial Services has a courier that delivers to the Clinton Business Office and the JMM Finance Department.  The Department of Medicine has a courier that delivers to Mirror Lake, Grants Ferry and the Medical Towers.  Mail for the V.A. Hospital is checked by a V.A. courier that comes to our Mail Service Department. The Department of Family Medicine has a courier for only Family Medicine "off-site" clinics.  There is a designated courier for Accounting, Legal, and Compliance only.  Also, the State Department of Health has a courier that transports lab samples only.

Departmental mailings are charged back to the respective areas via the departmental charge code on a monthly basis by the Accounting Department. Large bulk mailings are billed back to the departments as the invoices are received from the US Postal Service.
