Class Reserve Materials

The library reserve function allows a large number of students access to a few selected materials within a set amount of time. Items placed on class reserve are housed behind the Circulation Desk and are checked out for a 2-hour period. Individuals can renew an item for an additional 2 hours if no one has placed a hold on the item. Fines will be assessed if the item is not returned at the designated time. A UMMC ID badge is required to check materials out for in-house circulation.

It is the responsibility of the library to monitor compliance with the Copyright Guidelines for Class Reserve as detailed in the Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code):

  • Materials on reserve should also meet established test of "brevity," "spontaneity" and "cumulative effect."
  • A notice of copyright is required on each item.
  • Materials may not be placed on reserve for more than one term unless permission is obtained from the copyright holder.

To place an item on reserve, use the class reserve request form. The library must receive materials one week prior to the date the items are needed by students to allow for the time needed to process the items.

If you have any questions about the request form or procedures for reserve materials, email Antronette Bell or call (601) 984-1230.
