The Program in Neuroscience (PIN) is an interdepartmental PhD degree program with collaborating faculty from both basic and clinical departments at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The objectives for the Program in Neuroscience are to educate and train individuals to become independent research investigators, teachers and mentors with a broad understanding of the neurosciences and focused training within a subset of the areas of study that comprise neuroscience.
Our curriculum includes both didactic and non-didactic coursework with emphasis placed on experimental design, scientific writing and communication skills. Students also participate in a variety of career-building opportunities. Exposure to research begins in the student’s first semester and students will choose their dissertation laboratory after a survey of several active neuroscience laboratories. Research focus areas in the graduate program include brain trauma and spinal cord injury, obesity, neurodevelopment, neuroendocrinology, sensory systems, and substance abuse.
On behalf of the Executive Committee for the program, I hope that you enjoy exploring this website. Feel free to contact us if you have any question. We also cordially invite you to stop by if you are in the vicinity. We are more than happy to provide a personal introduction to the program and the UMMC neuroscience community.
