Rinki Varindani Desai is a Speech Language Pathologist and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. She attended the University of Texas at Dallas, where she received her Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders in 2011. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing and cognitive-communication disorders in adults and has worked in a variety of medical settings including long-term acute care, subacute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities over the past 8 years.Rinki has presented at numerous state, national and international conferences on topics related to dysphagia in adults. She founded the Medical SLP Forum on Facebook, co-created the Dysphagia Therapy mobile application and co-founded the Swallowing Training and Education Portal learning platform for clinicians. Currently, Rinki serves as Co-Chair of the Dysphagia Research Society's Website, Communications and Public Relations Committee and as Continuing Education Manager of ASHA's Special Interest Group 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders). She also guest lectures graduate students on topics related to dysphagia and dementia and volunteers with the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders. Originally from Mumbai, India; Rinki currently lives in Jackson, MS with her husband and enjoys reading, cooking and traveling around the world.
