Dr. Kate Fouquier joined the faculty in 2011 following completion of a one-year post-doctoral research fellowship at Georgia State University. Dr. Fouquier earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from Georgia State University; an MSN from Case Western Reserve University; a BHA from the University of Kentucky; and an ADN from Nicholls State University. In 1996, Dr. Fouquier earned her certificate in midwifery from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. She was awarded the National Health Services Scholarship Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to complete her midwifery education and served two years in an underserved community as a certified-nurse midwife (CNM). Dr. Fouquier’s program of research has been in psychosocial adaptations in pregnancy and birth; maternal-infant attachment; health care disparities in maternal nursing and adolescent health care. Her dissertation was entitled “INVISIBLE MOTHERHOOD: A Heideggerian Hermeneutical Analysis of Motherhood Among Three Generations of African American Women.” In 2008, Dr. Fouquier was awarded the Maymi Walker Chandler Award in recognition of her commitment to the professional development of women and in 2015, she was inducted into the Norman C. Nelson Order of Teaching Excellence.
