Arthur L. Calimaran, M.D. is currently the Vice Chair of Education. He is also the Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia and Medical Director of the Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants Surgery Center. He has served as an Interim Chair of the Department. Dr. Calimaran was the Residency Program Director for more than 10 years. Under his leadership, he trained over 100 consultant anesthesiologists. In 2019, he assumed the position of Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Calimaran completed his Anesthesiology residency at Tufts University and Pain Medicine and Obstetric Anesthesia fellowships at Northwestern University. He has been chosen by the residents as Teacher of the Year and received the first John Lauria Award for residency advocacy. As an anesthesiologist and interventional pain management physician, Dr. Calimaran has been repeatedly named in the Best Doctors in America publication. He was appointed in many regional and national anesthesiology society committees and served as an Examiner for the certification process of the American Board of Anesthesiology. In addition to his contributions to literature in the form of original scientific publications and abstracts, Dr. Calimaran was selected as a Section Editor of the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia. He has been invited as Visiting Professor to numerous national and international academic institutions.
