Phyllis Bishop is a Mississippi native who graduated from Mississippi College and went on to receive the M.D. degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She completed a three year Pediatric residency at UMMC and then subspecialty training at Vanderbilt University in Pediatric Gastroenterology. She began her academic career at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1994 where she practiced Pediatric Gastroenterology and conducted research on the anti-inflammatory effects of human breast milk. In 1998, Dr. Bishop joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical Center as an assistant professor. In 2000, she was promoted to Associate Professor in Pediatrics and to Professor in 2005. Since February 2012 she has served as Senior Medical Director for Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Bishop is boarded in Pediatric Gastroenterology and is a member of the American Gastroenterological Society, North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition , American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has greater than 40 publications including original research, case reports and invited reviews.
