My passion is to provide comprehensive HIV care from the moment my patients are diagnosed with HIV. This has been possible through establishing a strong rapport with them to enable a low dropout in the treatment cascade as well as impacting the community viral load/HIV transmission. I also emphasize on the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases in this population as well as diagnosis and treatment of Co-infections with Chronic Hepatitis C and B infections. In Jackson, I have worked closely with Dr. Leandro Mena in several research studies involving young black men who have sex with men and implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV. It has been a great experience for me to be part of the only PrEP clinic in Mississippi to date. This population is disproportionally affected by HIV in the Jackson metro area. Working as consultant at the Crossroads Clinic, which was the only free STD clinic (now renamed Five Points Clinic), provided me with a unique opportunity to counsel the youth at risk for HIV acquisition. At our PrEP clinic located at Open Arms Healthcare Center, we also conduct a qualitative research study on implementation of PrEP. Young African-Americans are a population disproportionally affected by HIV in the Jackson metro area. We have opened our doors to them to provide STD screening in a “walk-in” setting to allow linkage to care to PrEP and HIV services for transgender and non-conforming/non-binary patients. I work with a talented team providing transgender health care and HIV care to the Hispanic community. I am committed to end the HIV epidemic through promoting PrEP use in at risk population and providing individualized high standard of care to each unique patient affected with HIV in my community.
