Intellectual Disabilities

Intellectual disabilities in childhood are fairly common and can result from many different causes. Likewise, intellectual disabilities can range from very mild to very severe. Intellectual disabilities are often first noticed because the child is not mastering simple skills at the right age or show delays in learning to speak or understand words. Intellectual disabilities were once thought untreatable.

However, now we have many treatments that can help children overcome some or all of their intellectual disability. That is why it is important to have your child evaluated and treated by highly trained professionals, such as those at the Center for the Advancement of Youth (CAY).
