Center for LGBTQI Health

Center for LGBTQI Health

The Center for LGBTQI Health is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals through research, education, clinical practice and community outreach.

Leading the way in the center's establishment are Drs. Scott Rodgers and Harvey Makadon of the UMMC Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Dr. Leandro Mena, chair of the Department of Population Health. Rodgers is a professor and chair of the Psychiatry department, and Mena is a professor of population health, medicine and infectious diseases. Makadon is a former director of National LGBT Health Education, the Fenway Institute and a part-time professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

The center's faculty and staff aims to train the next generation of researchers, educators and clinicians in LGBTQI health needs and to enhance cultural competence in LGBTQI health throughout UMMC.
