Carter Griffin |Brandon, MS| Age 7
Nothing about Carter is ordinary, from his huge personality, to his extremely rare medical condition. Carter has been a regular at Batson Children's Hospital since he was an infant. He is an extremely special case with a very rare genetic muscle disorder that affects almost every aspect of his body. His mother Bridgette says, "Carter has a wonderful team of specialists that we have grown to love at this hospital." Because of his very rare muscle disorder, Carter has a list of complications that bring him back to the children's hospital regularly and many of his caregivers have become like family. Carter still makes time for his many hobbies and special interests, namely Star Wars, baseball, Boy Scouts, video games, and anything Ole Miss!
Ryleigh Sayers |Pearl, Mississippi | Age 6
Ryleigh's mother, Heather, was 20 weeks into her pregnancy when Ryleigh was diagnosed with spina bifida, a condition where the spinal column does not close all the way when developing in the womb. Ryleigh was closely monitored throughout Heather's pregnancy and had surgery at just one-day-old at Batson Children's Hospital to close her spinal column. She stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit for the following three weeks. Thanks to her dedicated care team and her precious positive attitude, Ryleigh will live a normal life, but may do a few things a little differently. She is a great big sister to her brother Caleb and loves all things princess, pink and purple!
