J-1 Exchange Students

J-1 Exchange Students

Thank you for your interest in the University of Mississippi Medical Center. On this section of our website, prospective and current international students will find information on how to obtain a student visa, comply with regulations, travel and work within J-1 statuses.

Enrolling international students in one of our programs is a complicated process that requires the collaborative work of several UMMC departments. For information about degree programs opened to international students and to apply to one of these programs, visit the School of Graduate Studies site. To receive assistance with the submission of an application, contact our Office of Student Records and Registrar.

J-1 Exchange Visitor Program

The J-1 Exchange Visitor Program is administered by the U.S. Department of State and was established as a result of the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961. The objective of the program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchange. The program provides foreign nationals with opportunities to come to the United States and participate in various cultural and educational programs. They are able to share their learning and experiences upon returning home.

We hope you can find at UMMC all you need to achieve your career goals. The Office of International Services is here to assist you in every stage of the process.
