Modified Faculty Designations

Effective July 1, 2016, the modified faculty designation template is now active in Lawson. The addition of three new designations to replace the broad category of “affiliate” is intended to achieve several goals, including:

  • better tracking of adjunct faculty and clinical preceptors;
  • additional flexibility in selected faculty appointments;
  • opportunities for novel relationships with mission-critical community providers.

The new designations will also allow:

  • Evolving faculty roles
  • New delivery platformsEmerging business opportunities
  • Novel community relationships
  • Standardization of practices across schools
  • Online faculty

The modified designations are as follows:

  • Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Instructor
  • Clinician-Educator
    • Full- or part-time provider

    • Mission-driven special appointments
    • Selected mid-level providers
    • Sliding-scale effort distribution
