Registered dietitians are credentialed through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and with their respective state(s) of practice. Dietitians are required to maintain eligibility through the professional development portfolio process. This process consists of portfolio cycles which last 5 years each starting from time of registration as a dietitian. Each 5 year cycle requires 75 hours of continuing professional education or 15 hours annually. The state of Mississippi also requires dietitians to maintain 15 hours of continuing professional education annually.

Through the professional development portfolio process, dietitians create goals related to knowledge growth or skill development/ enhancement and select continuing education opportunities corresponding to their respective goals. For questions concerning professional continuing education unit availability/eligibility, contact CDR at (800) 877-1600, ext. 5500, or email
