Orthopedist earns UMMC’s top quality award
Dr. George Russell, left, chair of the Department of Orthopedics, gives the Q Award to Dr. Patrick Bergin, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery, during a recent presentation at the Medical Center.
Presented quarterly by Quality Administration, the Q Award recognizes Medical Center physicians for promoting quality and improving patient safety.
Bergin was nominated for taking the physician leadership role in venous thromboembolisms (VTW), beginning with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and expanding throughout the Medical Center.
According to the nomination, Bergin “has demonstrated his willingness to address this quality issue, and has been able to affect a very positive change in how we treat patients with respect to VTE prophylaxis. His methods are sound, and his implementation of new processes are to be commended.”
