Table set for 24th annual Taste of the U
Live music, creative themes and an eclectic menu of bite-size food are on tap for the Taste of the U, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Jackson Medical Mall Thad Cochran Center.
This is the 24th year for the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s fund-raising event, which will benefit the UMMC Alliance, a nonprofit charitable and social organization serving the needs of the Medical Center’s patients, families and facilities.
This year’s proceeds will be used to remodel the Department of Radiology reception area.
Around 20 teams have signed up to ply Taste-goers with dishes from around the world.
Among the celebrity judges are Maggie Wade, anchor for Mississippi News Now; Grant Nooe, chef and restaurant owner; and Dr. David Dzielak, director of the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. Toy Wolfe, UMMC dietitian, will rate the heart-healthy fare.
Several prizes are up for grabs in a silent auction, including a two-night hunting trip at Belle Island in Vicksburg with a dinner, guided hunts and a guaranteed buck trophy; two tickets to the Chancellor’s Box for the Saturday, Oct. 4 Ole Miss-Alabama football game in Oxford, along with parking passes and a three-room, three-night stay; a football signed by former Rebel quarterback Eli Manning and current head football coach Hugh Freeze; and two stadium-seat tickets to the Ole-Miss Alabama game.
Also, Mississippi State University fans can bid on autographed items that include a cowbell, baseball, white zip-up hoodie and a book by legendary MSU sports announcer Jack Cristil. Also available: jewelry, gift cards to local merchants and restaurants; a private dinner for four at the winner’s home; and more.
Tickets to Taste of the U are $25 for adults; $15 for students, interns and residents; $5 for children under 12. To purchase, visit www.umc.edu/alliance. To volunteer, call Kathy Webster at 4-6377 or email her at email@example.com.
