Environmental chief named children’s champ

Ricardo Thomas, second from right, director of environmental services for Batson Children's Hospital and the Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants, receives the first Children's Champion Award during a kick-off event for the new Children's Healthcare of Mississippi quality initiative, "I Care for Kids."

Presenting the certificate to Thomas are, from left, Terri Gillespie, chief nursing officer; Guy Giesecke, chief executive officer, and Shannon Wentz, director of coordinated care and quality.

The award is given to a CHM employee who exemplifies the spirit of the "I Care for Kids" campaign and its focus on providing the very best patient experience.

Thomas said he was excited to receive the award.

"It's an opportunity to spotlight a lot of our unsung heroes, people who rarely get that type of recognition because they're not looking for it," Thomas said. "That's just who they are, they go beyond the call of duty, which is easy around here, especially when you have a little one of your own to serve."
