Tatum panel to discuss advanced directives
Dr. Vince Herrin, associate professor of medicine at the UMMC Cancer Center, Dana Brandt, patient advocate in patient affairs, Patrick Hopkins, chair of the Department of Philosophy at Millsaps College, and John Will, a legal scholar at the Mississippi College School of Law, will participate in a panel discussion of advanced directives in a hospital setting during the 2013 Tatum Lecture, scheduled for noon on Tuesday, April 2, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.
The panel will examine crucial, unexpected dilemmas that can spring into play when health-care providers and institutions seek to comply with patient wishes across the complexities of contemporary medicine.
The Tatum Lecture honors the late Nancy O'Neal Tatum, a family medicine physician who established UMMC's first formal programs in medical ethics.
