Mannings, UMMC to launch health initiative

WHAT: Archie Manning; Dr. Dan Jones, chancellor of the University of Mississippi; and Dr. James Keeton, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, will announce the launch of a campaign to help improve the health of the state’s residents: the Manning Family Fund for a Healthier Mississippi. (A full news release will be provided at the announcement.)

WHEN: Press conference: 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 23. You’re also invited to attend a 5:30 p.m. event designed to formally introduce this initiative to the UMMC community and its supporters.

WHERE: Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource Center, UMMC campus, Jackson.

WHY: More resources are needed to battle a variety of health-care challenges frequently confronted by Mississippi and UMMC, including heart disease, hypertension, obesity, low birth weight and many more.

DIRECTIONS AND MEDIA PARKING: Pre-registration is required to park in the media lot. Enter the UMMC campus from Lakeland Drive at the Peachtree Street traffic signal. Continue straight to the three-way stop sign. The parking lot directly in front of the Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource Center is your destination. Turn right and then take a left at the next intersection; turn left again into the parking lot. A security officer will check names on the media registration list. Those who do not register must park in the self-park/shuttle Lot D located between the schools of Pharmacy and Health Related Professions and may take a shuttle to the event.

REGISTRATION INFORMATON: To secure a space in the Learning Resource Center parking lot, please provide the following information in an email to publicaffairs@umc.edu: Name of your organization; how many people from your organization will attend, plus their names, if known beforehand; how many vehicles you will bring; whether you and others from your organization will attend the event following the press conference.
