Jackson Prep Seniors to donate Pounding the Pavement race proceeds for cancer research at UMMC

WHAT: Jackson Preparatory School Class of 2014 to donate Pounding the Pavement for a Cure 5k run proceeds for research at the UMMC Cancer Institute

WHEN: Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m.

WHY: After losing beloved family members to cancer, Jackson Prep students Anna Grace Buchanan and Cara Lee Crawford organized the inaugural Pounding the Pavement for a Cure 5k race in 2012. They donated the more than $12,000 in proceeds to research at the UMMC Cancer Institute in January 2013. Crawford and Buchanan’s class adopted the race, held Dec. 14, 2013 as its senior project and will again donate the proceeds. 

WHERE: Cancer Institute office suite, 7th floor Guyton Research Center, UMMC campus

Media may park in the gated lot in front of the Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource Center. Exit I-55 at Lakeland Drive, and head toward Jackson. Continue past St. Dominic’s Hospital and through the new light at E. University Drive. At the next light, Peachtree St., turn left onto the UMMC Campus. Continue to the three-way stop. Verner S. Holmes building is straight ahead. Turn left and make TWO IMMEDIATE rights into the parking lot. At the gate, push the call button and tell the attendant you’re here to meet with Public Affairs. The Guyton Research Center is the tall glass building next door.
