For heart-health awareness, UMMC visitors, faculty, staff, students can post a Go Red selfie

Media Contact: Gary Pettus at 601-984-1100 or gpettus@umc.edu.

WHAT: To raise awareness for heart health, media are welcome to shoot video of a "selfie" booth set up in the University Hospital upper lobby. At this booth UMMC employees, students, patients, families and visitors are encouraged to "dress up" in red-colored items and get photographed using their own mobile phone. Participants can then post the pictures to their personal social media accounts and include the hashtag #GoRedJXN.

All UMMC patients must sign a release form before they are allowed to be videotaped or photographed by media. Please check with a representative from the UMMC Division of Public Affairs before shooting any video or photos of patients.

Representatives from Metro Jackson American Heart Association will be available for interviews about National Wear Red Day and Go Red For Women.

WHEN: 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7

WHERE: University Hospital upper lobby, UMMC campus

DIRECTIONS AND MEDIA PARKING: Enter the main UMMC entrance from State Street, park in the circular drive (closest to Parking Garage A so as not to disrupt the patient drop-off area) in front of University Hospital.

WHY: UMMC and the Metro Jackson American Heart Association are partnering to help promote awareness of heart health in February. Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the U.S. and is largely preventable.
