(Jackson, Miss.) – Join representatives from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Crossroads Clinics Central and Mississippi Center for Justice to learn more about the state’s first-ever Medical-Legal Partnership, which will provide on-site access to legal services for people living with HIV/AIDS. The program provides training to medical personnel to enable them to refer patients for legal assistance that is often needed to address housing and employment discrimination.

Who: The collaboration includes a joint agreement with the Center, UMMC, the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Crossroads Clinics Central and the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation

When: Thursday, May 9, at 11 a.m.

Where: Jackson Medical Mall, Center Stage

Why: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends consultation with an attorney as part of a general medical treatment program for patients who are newly diagnosed with HIV. This partnership will provide much-needed access to those services in a convenient, confidential setting.
