DIRECTIONS AND PARKING: Take Lakeland Drive toward Fondren. Turn into the UMMC campus at the Peachtree Street traffic light (after St. Dominic Hospital but before Aladdin’s restaurant). Continue straight to the three-way stop. The parking lot is directly in front of you. Turn left and make an immediate right into the gated lot. Push the white button on the speaker box and tell the attendant you’re here for a media event with Public Affairs. The Guyton Research Center is the tall glass building across the street to the right.
After cancer struck members of both their families, Cara Crawford and Anna Grace Buchanan, friends and juniors at Jackson Prep, organized a 5k race called Pounding the Pavement for a Cure. Held Sept. 15 at Liberty Park in Flowood, the race raised $12,731.39, which they will donate for cancer research at the UMMC Cancer Institute.
“This is our Make a Difference Project,” Crawford said. “We don’t want families to have to go through what we are now.”
