Stress study in runners at UMMC includes Blues Marathon competitors

Blues Marathon runners participating in a study of the effects of marathon training stress on the immune system will come in for a final clinical visit before the race. As well, Dr. Krissy Rehm, the study’s principal investigator, will discuss how stress may contribute to an individual’s susceptibility to colds, flu, allergy flare ups and other health issues.WHEN:

Physical and psychological stress can affect a person’s immune system, making them more prone to sickness and allergies. To further understand that process, Dr. Rehm and her colleagues are tracking stress hormones in runners who are training for marathons. Her study group includes 30 people training for the marathons
