Dr. Francis Collins and U.S. Senator Thad Cochran visit

WHAT:  Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health and former head of the Human Genome Project, and U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran will be available for media interviews.

They will also give remarks about federal funding of biomedical research during a luncheon immediately prior to the media availability. Luncheon invitees include Rep. Gregg Harper, Rep. Alan Nunnelee, Dr. Carolyn Meyers, president of Jackson State University, Dr. Beverly Hogan, president of Tougaloo College, and Dr. Mary Currier, director of the Mississippi State Department of Health.

WHERE:  Norman C. Nelson Student Union building, UMMC campus, Jackson

WHY:  At the request of Sen. Cochran, Dr. Collins and a delegation of NIH officials is visiting UMMC for presentations by administration and faculty members of the Medical Center and other Mississippi universities on their NIH-funded programs.

Enter the UMMC campus from Lakeland Drive in Jackson, the Student Union is the second building on the right. Members of the media may park in the covered, semi-circular drive or on the plaza in front of the drive.
