In Memoriam: Dr. Robert Dye Sloan

Dr. Robert (Bob) Dye Sloan, first chairman and head professor of the Department of Radiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, died April 3 in Medford, Ore. He was 95.

A native of Clarksburg, W.Va., Sloan was a graduate of Washington and Lee University. He attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in radiology there. He also served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Sloan joined the Medical Center faculty in 1955 and received the Teacher of the Year Award on several occasions by his students. He retired from UMMC in 1980.

Burial took place at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Medford. Memorials in his name may be made to the Maslow Project, 500 Monroe Street, Medford, OR  97501. The Maslow Project is a non-profit advocacy organization that provides support for homeless infants, children and teens and their families.
