2018 Open Enrollment

Open enrollment is Oct. 2-31

Annual open enrollment is the only opportunity to make changes to your current insurance benefit elections unless there is a qualified status change such as marriage, divorce, death, birth, adoption or loss/gain of coverage from a group plan. Each October, we offer an annual benefits open enrollment to provide an opportunity for employees to review their benefits and make any needed changes. 

Any changes that you make during annual open enrollment will not be effective until Jan. 1 of the following year. Some benefit plan changes may require an Evidence of Insurability (EOI). This means that health questions will be required and coverage will not be effective until it is approved by the carrier. If you currently have a Flexible Medical Reimbursement or Flexible Dependent Care account, you are required to enroll each year. Flexible spending accounts do not automatically roll over to the next benefit plan year. 

*Note: Short-term disability and whole life insurance enrollment will be offered in March 2018.

Important dates to remember

September – PREPARE FOR OPEN ENROLLMENT (intranet link)

  • Review your current benefits which can be found in Lawson/Employee Self-Service/Benefits/Current Benefits.
  • Understand the benefits that are available to you
    • Review the 2018 Health and Other insurance Benefits Guide located in Lawson/Employee Self-Service/Benefits/Benefits Handbook.
    • Participate in Benefits Overview Sessions which are offered at various locations including webinars. To participate in a session, go to HealthStream, and register for one of the sessions. The course name is Open Enrollment Benefits Sessions.


  • To confirm, enroll or make changes to your benefits for 2018, you must go to Lawson/Employee Self-Service/Benefits/Open Enrollment.
  • Flexible spending accounts will not automatically roll over to 2018.  You must re-enroll in flexible spending accounts each year during annual open enrollment.
  • You will be able to print a summary page of your elections when you complete your online enrollment.
  • You will receive an email notification of the changes you made.  

Jan. 1, 2018

  • Open enrollment benefits effective date except for those benefit plan changes that requires an Evidence of Insurability that will not be effective until approved by the carrier.
