The University of Mississippi School of Nursing awards several scholarships. All students who apply and are accepted to the UMMC School of Nursing are eligible for these scholarships. Enrolled students are selected based on academic performance and/or financial need. This information is obtained from the student's application for admission. Students are informed of these awards through the Office of Student Affairs.
In addition, both prospective and current nursing students are encouraged to apply for financial aid through outside sources, such as nursing grants, nursing foundations and community agencies. We encourage students to apply as early as possible because funding can be limited.
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) offers a nursing scholarship through a grant, which pays tuition, fees, other education costs and a living stipend to students in accredited RN training programs. In exchange, upon graduation, scholars work for at least two years at a facility, such as a health center, rural health clinic, nursing home or hospital, that has a critical shortage of nurses.
There are two parts to this application:
Visit the HRSA site for more information at http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/scholarships/nursing/.
If you have questions, please contact HRSA directly at 1-800-221-9393. Please do not contact the UMMC School of Nursing in regards to this scholarship.

The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) assists in the recruitment and retention of professional registered nurses in facilities with a critical nursing shortage. NELRP encourages practice in these facilities by decreasing economic barriers associated with the rising cost of obtaining a nursing degree. The program offers RNs economic assistance through educational loan repayment in exchange for full-time service at a health-care facility with a critical shortage of nurses.
For more information about NELRP, please visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services NELRP website: http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/repayment/nursing/.
