Professor of Nursing
Director of Continuing Education
Dr. P. Renée Williams is a tenured professor with the School of Nursing and director of continuing nursing education. She earned her BSN from the University of Southern Mississippi, her MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing and her PhD in Educational Leadership from Jackson State University. She is administratively responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating nursing continuing education activities for the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her clinical specialty is maternal/newborn and women’s health nursing and is certified as a childbirth educator as well. She teaches in both the traditional undergraduate program and Nurse Educator track of the MSN program. Dr. Williams’ research interests include breast health awareness and cancer prevention, and finding solutions to the challenges of health disparities among ethnic minorities, particularly in African American communities.She is an active member of several professional nursing organizations, serving as an officer or committee chairperson. She also coordinates and participates in several community education and outreach projects to improve ethnic minority and underserved populations’ access to health-care services. As a professional nurse for over 35 years she believes in the importance of promoting the value of life-long learning, and supporting the growth of professional nursing by increasing the number of ethnic minorities practicing in the profession through recruitment, counseling and mentoring.
