Dr. Kim Hoover
At our School of Nursing, you will find the excellent faculty, student population, curriculum and training sites necessary to help you meet your goals. The School of Nursing was founded in 1948 as the Department of Nursing, offering the first baccalaureate program in the state. Since that time, its more than 2,000 graduates have cared for the people of Mississippi in hospitals, clinics and at home. We also initiated the state's first master's program in nursing in 1970 and its first collaborative doctoral program in 1998. Our educational programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Today, we continue to create new and innovative ways to provide care to Mississippians. Our nurse-run primary care clinic was the first in the state. The clinic provides real-life learning experiences for all our students, as well as a site for faculty practice. The school also developed a primary care clinic in a local elementary school. In addition to teaching and faculty practice, faculty continue to research insights and solutions to health-care problems. We have recently added a mobile clinic van, as a partnership with the faith community and rural Mississippi. As a marker of our success, faculty have been invited to present their findings at research conferences all over the world.
I am confident that you will find the academic setting at the Medical Center unmatched in scope, range and excellence. As a result, you will find that your adventure into nursing education will give you immeasurable satisfaction.
