Professor of Nursing
Director of School-Based Health CentersDirector of Acute/Primary Pediatric Nurseand Neonatal Nurse Practitioner tracks
Dr. Anne Norwood has been a FNP for over 15 years and has taught in a school of nursing for over 20 years. She is a professor in the School of Nursing where she is the director of two school-based clinics located in the Jackson Public Schools. Dr. Norwood is also the director of the Acute/Primary Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner tracks of the MSN program. Her primary teaching responsibilities are teaching advanced-nursing students in the graduate program as well as serving as a preceptor for FNP students and pediatric residents from the School of Medicine. In addition to teaching and directing these clinics, she practices as an FNP at Johnson Health Center and Mississippi Children's Home.Dr. Norwood serves as the principle investigator for two grants from the Mississippi Department of Education. These two five-year grants were awarded in July 2014 and fund the school-based health clinics in the Jackson Public Schools system. The schools are located in Brown Elementary/Rowan Middle School and Johnson Elementary where the majority of children have no primary-care provider and health disparities are prevalent. Providing care for these children has been an invaluable experience not only for the professionals who provide the care and the children who receive the care, but also for all the multiple levels of students who are able to rotate through these clinics to gain important clinical experience. Implementing culturally-competent and interdisciplinary care in this population has become a passion of hers.
