Congratulations and welcome to the University of Mississippi School Of Medicine.
The freshman medical year 2015-2016 is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 7:45 AM in R153 (see map below). You'll receive a packet of information during the summer via United States Postal Service with additional materials and other important resources. Be certain to have your driver's license, laptop and a ballpoint pen with you on the first day. You are asked to be dressed in business casual attire. In the event extenuating circumstances preclude you from being present on August 6, notify me promptly.
The White Coat Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Belhaven Center for the Arts on Thursday, August 6. Each student will be allowed to bring three guests to this function. The male attire for this ceremony is suit/sport jacket and tie and the female attire is dress/skirt or dressy pants outfit.
We have organized a Family Orientation Day, scheduled for Friday, August 7, beginning at 9:00 am. The program is designed to help answer questions about the institution, medical school curriculum, services available to the student and discuss the families' role as a support. The program will last until roughly 3:00 pm, is not mandatory, and will include a noon meal. Please consider making your family aware of this fun and popular program. As you know, parking for all medical students is in the stadium parking lot located immediately west of the medical center on North State Street. Information on student service resources is available on the student affairs website http://www.umc.edu/som_studentaffs/.
Please be advised that you will be receiving a packet from the Veterans Administration Medical Center via email. These documents will help you prepare for access to the VA, a critical element in your training.
In the short term, consider using the MyU Web Portal to view/accept your financial aid and update your current contact information. You should have received via email your username and student ID. You can access the portal by navigating to http://myu.umc.edu/. The Portal is compatible with IE 8, 9, 10, 11, Firefox, and Google Chrome. If you experience issues with your browser settings go to: http://www.umc.edu/Education/Academic_Affairs/Current_Students/Student_Information_Systems/Student_Information_Systems_Home.aspx for instructions on how to make the necessary modifications. You will be required to create an initial password at https://password.umc.edu/CAS/index.jsp using the username that was provided via email.
