    Students will learn the basic principles and practical skills to deliver safe and effective healthcare in a tropical setting.

    •  Learn the general principles in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting for healthcare in a setting with limited resources.
    • Describe the pathogenesis, epidemiology, and management of common infectious diseases that occur in the tropics.
    • Evaluate appropriate methods for improving health in a setting of limited resources including preventive measures to improve community health.


    • Students will be expected to demonstrate an appropriate understanding and delivery of basic patient care in a foreign setting.
    •  Students will be asked to demonstrate proficiency at acquiring a history and performing a physical examination as applies to an outpatient healthcare encounter in a less developed setting.
