    Students should demonstrate adequate knowledge of common medical problems in a global health setting and the application of this knowledge to patient care in the clinics.

    • Understand the lifecycle, epidemiology, diagnosis and management of common parasitic, fungal, bacterial, and viral infections in the tropics.
    • Recognize the clinical presentation of common illnesses and health concerns in a Latin American jungle population.
    •  Review the basic steps in the diagnosis and management of persons presenting for healthcare in a setting with limited diagnostic and therapeutic resources.


    Students will learn the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, clinical course, and prevention of tropical diseases.

    Students will review clinically relevant aspects of the basic science and public health aspects of topics in infectious diseases, tropical medicine and international health.
