    Students must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in the effective exchange of information with patients, their families, and professional associates.


    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families in the context of a culturally different setting and in the host community's language (Spanish) using translators if necessary.
    • Communicate effectively with all members of the health-care team regarding specific patient management issues.


    • Discuss health issues and recommendations with a patient and family in a manner that is culturally appropriate.
    • Show appropriate application of basic patient-centered principles as well as community strategies to improve health.
    • Develop skills to address preventive health measures including prevention of certain infectious diseases and improving health through sanitation, safe water and nutrition.
