    Dr. Sumona Smith is a 2002 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and a 1998 graduate of Jackson State University, where she earned the BS in chemistry. She completed her surgery residency at Emory University School of Medicine in 2009.

    As a research fellow in Emory's Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, she authored and co-authored two papers on aortic aneurysms that were published in vascular surgery journals. She has written and co-written five other research manuscripts and two book chapters.

    Smith is a member of two honor societies, Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi, and in 2006 received an American College of Surgeons Resident Research Award.
