    Biography

    Dr. Shuntaye D. Batson, a recent surgical critical care fellow, has joined the UMMC faculty as an assistant professor of surgery.

    After receiving the BS in biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2002, Batson earned the MD at the Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, D.C., in 2007. She had general surgery residency training at Howard University Hospital from 2007-12 and a surgical critical care fellowship at Georgia Health Sciences University, Augusta, from 2012-13.

    A resident member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Batson has served as an administrative chief resident at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C., and at Howard University Hospital.

    Dr. Batson joined the UMMC faculty Sept. 16, 2013.
