  • Psychiatry Faculty Opportunities

    The Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center has a threefold mission to provide care of the highest quality to all patients; to offer state-of-the-art education and training in psychiatry, psychology and related fields; and to pursue research on the brain, human behavior and mental illness. For the adult psychiatrist, areas targeted for expansion include ambulatory services, consults for inpatient services and general emergency services. As a faculty member, the individual is expected to teach and provide clinical services. In addition, there are opportunities to conduct research within the department or elsewhere at UMMC.

    The University of Mississippi Medical Center, the state's only academic health science center, is located in Jackson, the capital of Mississippi. UMMC encompasses six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health related professions, graduate studies and pharmacy.     Full-time Psychiatrist (2 positions available)

    Qualifications

    The Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS is actively recruiting Board Certified/Board Eligible psychiatrists to join a vibrant and growing department.  We welcome all areas of specialty within psychiatry and seek candidates who will contribute to the department's education, clinical, and research missions.

    Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will have the opportunity to supervise medical students and psychiatric residents, as well as to engage collaboratively in clinical, educational, and research endeavors with fellow psychiatrists, psychologists and basic scientists within the department. Ample opportunity also exists for a variety of collaborative interactions with other departments across the UMMC campus and with colleagues at our adjacent affiliate, the G.V.     Full-time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

    Qualifications

    The Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS is actively recruiting a board certified/eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to serve as the director of Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service.

    Responsibilities

    The candidate psychiatrist would take part in several pediatric health areas targeted for expansion, including ambulatory services, educational leadership, and consults for inpatient services. As a faculty member, the individual is expected to teach medical students, residents, and fellows and provide clinical services. In addition, there are opportunities to conduct research within the department and to collaborate with other departments across the UMMC campus.

    Full-time Director of Outpatient Psychiatry Program

    Qualifications

    The Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS is actively recruiting a board certified/eligible psychiatrist to serve as the director of the Outpatient Psychiatry Program (OPP).  The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong interest in teaching and providing clinical care utilizing evidenced-based approaches to psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.  Additionally, the candidate must have strong administrative skills as well as an appreciation for innovative educational programming involving learning modules and self-assessment for trainees.

    Responsibilities

    The OPP is arranged in a series of specialty clinics, including mood/anxiety disorders, addictions, and psychotic disorders.  Residents, medical students, and psychology interns will work closely with faculty in seeing patients in the outpatient program. In addition, there are opportunities to conduct research within the department, to collaborate with other departments across the UMMC campus, and to augment the collaborative relationship with our affiliate, the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).

    Full-time Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services Unit

    Qualifications

    The Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, MS is actively recruiting a board certified/eligible psychiatrist to serve as the director of the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) Unit. The ideal candidate would possess an enthusiasm for leadership, program building, mentoring, and collaborative opportunities.

    Responsibilities

    The director will coordinate care of patients seen in the Emergency Department by organizing and supervising the activities of faculty, staff, residents, psychology interns, and medical students as well as by providing direct care to patients, both within the Emergency Department and in an outpatient setting.  As a faculty member, the individual is expected to teach medical students, residents, and psychology interns. In addition, there are opportunities to conduct research within the department, to collaborate with other departments across the UMMC campus, and to augment the collaborative relationship with our affiliate, the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).
