    Dr. McGuire received his MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1979. After completing an internship and residency in orthopedics at Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia, he completed a fellowship at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit / Adult Spine Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric reconstruction and scoliosis at Miami Children's Hospital. McGuire served as co-director of spine surgery service in the orthopedic department at Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, before joining our faculty in 1990.

    McGuire is well known for his numerous articles and presentations concerning spinal surgery, instrumentation, orthosis, and research related to new procedures and products. In addition to faculty appointments in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery, he is also on the medical staffs of the Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center and the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
