    Dr. Tollefson, originally from Minnesota, spent four years in the Army infantry (Airborne) soon after high school. Following his service in the Army, he entered Southwest State University and graduated with honors in 1994 with a BS in biology. He completed his MS in molecular biology from Minnesota State University in 1996 and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2000.

    In 2001, he completed an internal medicine internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center (Lackland Air Force Base, Texas). From 2001-05, he was in active duty as an Air Force flight surgeon and was deployed to various locations, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Since 2005, he has been an active member of the Mississippi Air National Guard.

    He works as an attending in the UMMC Emergency Department and director of the ED ultrasound program. Having special interests in sports medicine, he completed our sports medicine program in 2011.

    Tollefson is board certified in sports medicine and joined our practice as assistant professor, seeing patients at the Grants Ferry and Pavilion clinics.
