Dr. Shannon D. Pittman is an associate professor and residency director in the Department of Family Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Tougaloo College and earned her MD at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she also completed her family medicine residency in 2005.
She served as chief resident from 2004-05 and was awarded the George Lally Bevill Memorial Fellowship in Family Medicine.
Dr. Pittman is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, American Medical Association, Society of Teachers for Family Medicine and the Mississippi Academy of Family Medicine.
She received the Q-Award from UMMC for promotion of quality and improvement of patient safety in 2014, was elected a member of the National Institute for Program Director Development Fellowship Council, awarded the AFMRD Bronze Program Director Award, and completed a faculty development fellowship in Waco, Texas, in April 2006, and completed the UMMC Leadership Development Program in 2011-2012. Dr. Pittman received the Golden Stethoscope Award (faculty of the year) from the graduating residents in 2007 and 2010.
