    Dr. Smith joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1995, holds the rank of professor, and is a clinical psychologist.  From that time until 2010, he held a full-time appointment with the department and was actively involved in residency training.  He established and directed the health psychology fellowship from 1999-2010 during which time his research interests focused on tobacco cessation.  Moving to part time in 2009, he was appointed associate dean for faculty affairs in the School of Medicine and in 2014 was appointed as the Chief Faculty Affairs Officer for the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  

    Dr. Smith is licensed in Mississippi, is credentialed by both the Association of State and Provincial Boards of Psychology and the National Register, and is board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology (Clinical).  He provides evidence-based psychological treatments to adults through the Department of Family Medicine with a special focus on anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors and chronic disease management
