    Dr. Patrick O. Smith joined the Department of Family Medicine in 1995. He holds the rank of professor and is a clinical psychologist. He established and directed the health psychology fellowship from 1999-2010 during which time his research interests focused on tobacco cessation. Until 2010, he held a full-time appointment with the department and was actively involved in residency training. In 2010, he was appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Medicine and became a part-time faculty member within the Department of Family Medicine.  He continues to provide evidence-based psychological treatments to adults through the Department of Family Medicine with a special focus on anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors and chronic disease management.

    Dr. Smith is licensed in Mississippi, is credentialed by both the Association of State and Provincial Boards of Psychology and the National Register and is board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology (clinical).

    He has served in numerous leadership roles at the state and national level including the Mississippi Psychological Association, the Mississippi Board of Psychology, the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, and the National Register of Healthcare Providers in Psychology.  He is actively involved in the Association of American Medical Colleges through the Council of Academic Societies and the Group on Faculty Affairs.
